Lady Father Interview What is the name of your Blog?Lady Father What is your name? Susan Where are you from? (include country, state and/or city) Delmar, NY, USA What is your current age or age range? 62 Please describe your blog Reflections and discussions about an ordained woman's experience of discrimination in the church's ordination process and in parishes served. Also articles and essays on subjects pertinent to women in traditionally male roles, anecdotes, and experiences that are worth telling.~~ Describe the main purpose of your blogging, what are you trying to accomplish? I am writing about an all too common experience in the ordination process of the Episcopal Church in Southern Virginia in the 1980's. I hope to reach other women experiencing the same painful rejection and abuse that I suffered at the hands of good Christians who could not or would not accept the spiritual authority of a woman. I want to offer support and help where I can. What blogging platform do you do and why? Word Press. It was recommended to me by my mentor and I like the look. It's clean and simple and everything works! I can usually find help when I can't figure something out and I like the plug-ins and special features. What do you blog the most about? Personal experiences from the past as well as reflections on current happenings in my life. I do write articles occasionally about a topic that relates to my purpose of helping women survive discrimination and mistreatment in the workplace. I like to write about the things I learned to do and not to do when dealing with difficult people who didn't accept me for what I was and I like to relate success stories as well as the failures that I learned from and that I turned into good for me. What kind of blogs make you angry? The blogs that say nothing - just ramble about going to work and being lonely and what I call "fluff." The blogs that rant and rave about things without being helpful and especially the ones that speak hurtfully and falsely about people with whom they disagree. I don't like to read vitriolic ravings about anything - they always offend me and never inform me or life me up, which are the reasons that I read anything. Give five of your best blogging tips. 1. Be concise and to the point. 2. Be kind and don't take out your anger on the subject of your blog or on your readers. 3. Be honest. 4. Encourage interaction with your readers and read what they write. No one likes to be ignored. 5. Use pictures to illustrate, entertain, and touch your readers. What are some things you would NEVER blog about? Politics, sexual acts, my sins and those of my family members, any experience that should remain private, confidences, personal friends and their foibles (unless they agreed and gave me permission). Did you start blogging for the purpose of making money and if so, are you making enough money? My first blog was just for fun - about being a grandmother. Then I started a home business and made a blog to connect with other home business folks and to showcase products. I am now writing an ebook and do hope to sell it so my current blog is a combination of a promotion of the book when it comes out, preparation for the publication, and - this is my favorite part - connecting with other women who have been where I've been. I am not now making money on either blog. How long have you been blogging? Less than a year. About how many hours per day do you spend blogging? Less than an hour - unfortunately, I have a full-time job. Do you track RSS feeds and if so, how many do you usually track daily? No, I'm not into RSS feeds yet but I want to learn. Do you use Digg, and why or why not? I have registered but I don't quite know what to do with it - I'm learning. Do you use Stumbleupon, and why or why not? I am registered but I don't get it yet - I'm working on it. What promotional techniques work best for you and why? I haven't hit on the best techniques yet. I think the blog will eventually work well and I'm also blogging on other people's blogs making friends and connections to form a network where my work will eventually be accepted and talked about so people will recognize my name and my work and want to read what I offer. If you could post a blog on any blog in the world, which one would it be and why? I guess the most popular one that would reach the most people - or - the one where all the people were kind and interesting and funny and didn't waste people's time with fluff. What mistakes have you made that you could warn others about? I would warn people to KISS - keep it simple, stupid. My first attempt didn't fly because it wasn't focused. Have you met anyone offline as a result of your blog? No I haven't. What is the url of your blog? Lady Father |
